Featured Wine of the Week

Happy Wine Wednesday!  Today, I am featuring a wine that has been so perfect for this cold weather we’ve been having – the organic, biodymanic and sustainable Ampelos Syrache.

Details:

Ampelos – 2014 Syrache

Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County

Sta. Rita Hills AVA

67% Syrah, 33% Grenache

14.2% Alcohol

30 cases produced

Red Wine

Tasting Notes:

Deep garnet in the glass, this wine is rich and sturdy.  Floral notes of violets and roses, with some blackberry fruit lingers on the nose.  This medium bodied wine has a long finish with good acid.  There are candied violets, blackberries, cherries and dark fruit on the palate with just a hint of vanilla.

Trivia:

Owners, Peter and Rebecca Work, decided to quit their corporate jobs and follow their passion for wine when they had a cancelled meeting in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.  They purchased 82 acres of land and focused on growing organic grapes.  According to their website, they are the first vineyard in the United States to be certified organic, biodynamic and sustainable.

In case you didn’t know, BIODYNAMIC FARMING uses spiritual and mystical beliefs to determine when and where to plant.  Intrigued?  So am I…  Would you be interested in a blog post about it?
